The Fashion Group International has announced the list of nominees for this year’s Rising Star awards. To keep safe from the spread of coronavirus, the event will be held virtually on December 17. The annual celebration is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. and take an hour from start to finish, including a live awards presentation.
Maryanne Grisz, Fashion Group International’s president and chief executive officer, said that it’s incredibly important now more than ever to acknowledge new talents since they strive to work in an ever-changing marketplace.

In terms of nominees for Womenswear, there are GRP1 Knits’ Peter Kamieniecki, Epperson’s Rodney Epperson, Aknvas’ Christian Juul Nielsen, and namesake designers include Sai Sankoh, Kelsey Randall, Soonil Kwan, and Amir Taghi – all have their own signature collections. In terms of men’s wear award, there are Phit Clothing’s Phillip White, Victor Li, Reese Cooper, and Christopher Lowman.
Competitors who are in the running for the All Gender Product award, which was introduced for the first time in 2019, include Apotts’ Aaron Potts, Cipriani Mia’s Nelissa [sic] Carrillo, Cassandra Elizabeth’s Cassandra Burrell, Venim’s Leslie Fong, Kayee Houchin, and Rinat Brodach.
The Beauty Entrepreneur honor is one of the more crowded categories with many vying for the honor, including Masami’s Lynn Power, Em & El Organics’ Emily Trower-Young, Curl Daddy’s Edwin Pierrot, Pause Well-Aging’s Rochelle Weitzner, Sparti Scents’ Caroline Fabrigas and Abby Wallace, Versed’s Melanie Bender, and Nyakio Beauty’s Nyakio Grieco.
There are five brands that have been nominated for the Accessories, Scarves/Fashion Jewelry category, including Rory Worby Studio’s Rory Worby, Ines x Ciner’s Ines Di Santo, You Go Natural’s Monique Little, Dalfo’s Carolina Dalfo, and Trelawear’s Mara Perlmutter. When it comes to the Accessories, Handbags/Footwear honor, there are four, including Daph.’s Daphne Benzaquen, Mia Becar’s Betzabe Gonzalez, and Area’s Tina Bhojwani, Bentz’s Melissa and Kim Bentz.
Three enterprising companies are running for the New Retail award: Jerrimiah James’ Jerry Buckner, Fashwire’s Kimberley Carney Clear, and for Me’s Sabrina Noorani.
