Fashion: What to look forward to in 2018
Comments Off on Fashion: What to look forward to in 2018

It’s a new year, and while you might think that this means wholly new designs for the fashion world, you’d be mistaken. In fact, as always seems to happen with fashion, a few old favourites are returning. Remember the scrunchie? It’s back. Believe it or not, it won’t be the only fashion accessory from yesteryear which will be returning either. Let’s see what will be making a comeback or its debut later this year.
The Scrunchie is Back
Remember the scrunchie? Well, love it or hate it, it’s coming back. The must-have 90s hair accessory is making its return in 2018, bigger and more colourful than ever before. Ribbons were last year, it seems. If the popularity of the ribbon in 2017 was anything to go by, we’ll expect to find plenty of women with scrunchies in their hair this year – unless, of course, you really do hate them that much.
Bohemian is Back
It has been a long time since Sienna Miller walked around sporting the bohemian look. In fact, almost 15 years after she pulled it off, it is back. Stores are going around selling everything from South Western skirts, to suede and patchwork coats. If you’ve still got some of that 2003-2004 garb lying around, it might be time to take it out and give it a bit of dusting.
Backpack Bling
It has probably been a long time since you were in high-school. Not only is the backpack, well, back; backpack bling is back, too. Adorning your backpack with small spikes, patches, badges and other forms of bling (remember those bears that everybody used to carry attached to their bags?) is apparently the in-thing for 2018.
Punk Power
Punk comes and goes. When it’s out, people get criticised for being “out there”, but this year may just have seen the return of fully-fledged punk. Major designers such as Dior and Prada are getting in on the act, too. Red and black could be the colours for you to wear this year, and if you’ve still got your fishnet tights and mini skirts girls, now could be the time.
The 80s are Brought to Back Life
It isn’t just 90s scrunchies and 2000s backpack bling which are coming back. Many retro looks seem to be popping in 2018, and that includes the 80s. Legwarmers are creeping back into fashion (albeit not as bright as they used to be) and 80s hairstyles (crimped, specifically) are also in right now. Woolen sweaters, big brooches and shiny colours – are you looking forward to glitzing it up in 80s garb once more?
The Return of Floral
Remember those sofas and chairs we used to have, with the floral patterns? They are back, only this time surfacing as summer frocks and dresses. The 60s inspired floral patterns are being put out by many top designers right now, so if none of the classic returning looks check your boxes, you can always opt to retain looks you like most.
